Shelley Bird brings 25 years of international experience in marketing, strategy and communications to her current role as executive vice president of public affairs at Cardinal Health. She is responsible for corporate marketing, public relations, government relations, community relations, internal communications, crisis communications, and global branding.
Prior to joining Cardinal Health, Shelley was chief communications officer at NCR Corporation based in the U.S. and vice president of marketing communications and public relations for Philips Consumer Communications based in the U.S. and France. She spent a decade working in Asia, holding a number of management positions of increasing responsibility with public relations firm Hill and Knowlton.
Shelley also held several regional management positions with Motorola Electronics in the Asia Pacific region and as the owner of a brand consultancy. She began her career in Toronto, Canada with J. Walter Thompson, a global brand communications company. She also taught at the college level in retail management programs.
Shelley holds a Master of Arts degree in Communication Management and a Doctorate in Communication from the University of South Australia. She is a regular speaker and writer on strategy, corporate culture, marketing, communication, change management and public relations measurement. In 2001, 2005 and 2011 she was honored with communication leadership awards from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and the Public Relations Society of America. And in 2004, she was named the Corporate PR Professional of the Year by PR News, a leading public relations news magazine.
Shelley is a past chair of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and an accredited business communicator, IABC's professional credential program. Shelley also serves on the board of Goodwill Columbus and the Wexner Center for the Arts, The Ohio State University's multidisciplinary, international laboratory for the exploration and advancement of contemporary art.
